Sustainable Cities

Many of you are familiar with former Bogota mayor Enrique Penalosa and his work in transforming the city of Bogota, but if you aren't, I highly recommend this video. Hell, even if you are familiar with him, I recommend this video.

Dude! Mine says video currently unavailable. :( And I saved it from last night so I could enjoy it this am with the kids at school.

Thanks for linking to this video, Ruchi. Wow, mass transit for multi-million pop. cities can be done to serve those who most need it.

I especially like it when Penalosa said that the idea is to have someone on a $30 bicycle to be equal to the person driving a $30,000 automobile-true democracy! I've always felt that mass transit is an exceedingly democratic entity, and feel it every time I ride. Inspiring!

I really enjoyed it (watched it with DH while I was making baklava!). I'm definitely showing it to my Transition Southampton group, and hopefully screening it soon.

I love the internet and documentaries. Such a great combination! Woo-hoo!

Those of you that couldn't see it, maybe go to you tube and search for Penalosa Brad Pitt? I'm sure you'll come up with something.

(Brad Pitt narrates, but no, you do not ever see his beautiful beautiful face.)

PBS.org has the video plus all the others in the E2 series on their site.

Brad Pitt has a foundation for rebuilding the 9th Ward in New Orleans. Makeitrightnola.org
You can see his pretty face there. ; )

This was an amazing video! Thank you for posting it. I almost cried (which is saying something because I generally don't cry).

Now I have some hope.
