Guys? I think I'm in love.
Seriously, it's like ... do you remember that first time? When you switched from pads to tampons? And it was like, SO
AMAZING, and you were like, "Whoa. Why didn't anyone ever tell me about this before?" And all your friends were like, "Hi, ditzoid, we've all been using tampons for years now. Where were you?"
Well, it's like that.
It's like a tampon, only a frajillion times better. You only have to empty it out twice a day as opposed to changing a tampon every few hours. There was no running out to the 7-11 at midnight and buying an extremely over-priced box of sanitary product. If I'm being perfectly honest, the fact that it's good for the environment is sort of icing on the cake. The convenience and cost alone made the diva worth it to me.
Now to be fair, I will state for the record that the diva cup is not for everyone. There is a period (tee hee, I'm punny) of adjustment necessary to switch over from tampons to the cup. My first experience with the cup was a little miserable. I couldn't figure out how to remove it, and I started flipping out that I was going to have to drive my sorry self down to the emergency room and get them to remove it. Luckily I calmed down long enough to read the damn directions, and my problem was solved. The diva cup also requires you to get up close and personal with your vajayjay, at least the first few times you use it. (If you have ever used one of those applicator-free tampons, it's basically that level of up close and personal.) And Beany, I have to admit, that yes, I was witness to a couple murder scenes. And yes, I did wipe clean the scenes of the crimes with paper towels, because I was just not about to deal with cloth for that.
But frankly? While there was a learning curve, you pretty much figure it all out after a few tries. By about the second day, I was completely and totally hooked. And if any of you are so inclined to buy a cup, check out this forum here. Pretty much every question I had was answered there.
So there you have it. And now, I am going to hit publish, so that the entire world can read about my adventures with the diva cup. Because clearly, I have no sense of boundaries!

Cool. I'll have to try it sometime this year. I have stocked up on tampons since I buy the organic kind (no applicator) online since they are 2 bucks cheaper per package. I buy alot to get free shipping.
p.s. I just finished my "time" funny we must be on the same cycle.
p.p.s. hope that wasn't too personal
I got the Diva cup and was too nervous to use it this time. Resorted to the cloth pads. Maybe next month I will not chicken out.
I've used a tampon for 2 years total and my experience was very similar to yours ("this is a miracle"). Although I almost had a heart attack and had problems removing it the first time. I thought that was TSS (being unable to remove things from the v-spot).
Applicator free tampon? That sounds truly horrific. And why are people actually frightened of the diva cup? It must be really big and scary looking. I think I'll remain a pearl girl, thanks.
Huh.
Okay, long-time reader, first-time commenter: I am SO GLAD you posted this. It has been on my mind ever since you started JaLeDiMo. I've been toying with the idea of trying this for a while, and your testimonial has pushed me over the edge, thanks!
Ellejayeff, thanks for reading! And I'm glad you're going to try out the diva cup. I definitely think it's worth trying out!
I LOVE my diva cup. LOVE it. I discovered it 5 years ago and have never gone back. Tampons seem so DiRTY now!
aclare... it's scary looking because it's really big looking. You don't realize now STRETCHY everything is up there! It folds up nice and small for insertion, though. Don't be scared of it! :)
Yay! Seriously, there are lots of us 'cup' converts out there- most women just don't talk about it! Really though I guess it depends on the crowd you run with (nearly all of my gfs have and love them). I learned about it 7 years ago (OMG, am I that old?) from an editorial in my small college newspaper and bought one shortly after that. At first I was afraid to bring it up with my new college friends, but once I did I realized lots of them were ordering them too! My friend and I coauthored another editorial before we left to make sure the next group of students knew about it too.
I have been using my Keeper now for almost 7 years and I love it. I really think it is less gross than tampons. When I replace it in a few years I'll get a silicone DivaCup, unless someone comes out with one that has a small loop at the bottom instead of a tab. My biggest concern during my travels was that it would slip out of my hand and down a pit toilet abyss, which would be completely disastrous. Um, I also have to admit that I leave mine in way longer than 'recommended' but your mileage may vary.
Rather cool site you've got here. Thank you for it. I like such themes and anything that is connected to them. BTW, try to add some images :).
It is rather scaring and doesn't seem hygienic
