Yes Virginia, It Is Possible For a Non-Consumer To Furnish Her New Place

What can £45 get you in London?

Well, yesterday it got me 15 wooden hangers, a digital TV box and remote control, a stock pot, six bowls, 6 small plates, 3 big plates, a set of kitchen knives, a ladle and a spaghetti spoon doohickey, a garlic press, an ice cream scoop, some kitchen shears, assorted knives, forks, and spoons, a cheese grater, and a small frying pan. And a wok. And a lasagna pan. And three huge mugs and a few wine glasses. And five water glasses. And half the kitchen stuff and the digital TV box had never actually been touched.

God I love buying used.

Thanks Wholesale Cooking Supply, but I'm living in a dorm room (fully furnished) the size of a postage stamp!! I have no living room, nor do I have the money for living room furniture. And if I did, I would try to buy used before buying anything new. Furniture is not anything that I would likely buy new.

Thanks, PD.

Is there anything better than used?!? Better yet, it can usually be sold for the same price for which it was purchased.

I'm with Green Bean - when I was moving every year, i basically used Goodwill like a library. Go, pick up a couch and some kitchen stuff and a bookshelf, use it for a year or so, give it back, buy again in a new town...it was cheaper than shipping what I already had (which came from Goodwill anyway.)

I'm glad you're having fun bargain-shopping in London, Ruchi. When does school start?

GB, good point! Hopefully I'll be able to make some of my money back if and when I sell it all! :)

Cath, thanks!

Rosa, classes have started already! They started today. But I didn't actually have any classes today.

Aldi was a litte weird in Germany, they are a bit fo a daiscount store so you never really knwo what they're going to have... And yea, I hope you bought an A-Z, totally helpful, saved me from being totally lost in London.

I do have an A-Z and I cherish it very very much.

Sounds like you did a great job shopping, but that comment from wholesale cooking supply is a hoot! Do you think they actually READ your post?
