My Eco-Sins

So some of you may know this or not but I'm secretly part of the Green Moms Carnival ... even though I'm not a mom. Shhh! Don't tell them. I may have made up an imaginary child named Juanita to get into the club.

Anyway ... point being, this month's carnival topic asks what we do that is not eco-friendly. I feel like I've covered this ground a few times since I love self-flagellation, but what the hell. If you want to read the full carnival, check it out on June 24th at The Green Parent.

Okay ... so first off, I have sinned REMARKABLY during these past few months with exams. I think I've come to the conclusion that we all have the things we're quite good at. For me, it's not shopping. I can not shop until I don't drop. But cooking ...?

Yeah that crap went out the window long ago. In the past couple months, I have *gasp* used several styrofoam cups as I forgot my portable tea mug and then the portable tea mug became so scuzzy and gross I couldn't use it anymore.

I have given up on farmer's markets for the time being, instead buying my (still organic and British grown) strawberries at the nearby supermarket. Of course, they come wrapped in buckets of plastic.

Then there was my exam obsession with Subway. I chose Subway, because, yes, it is fast food, but it is reasonably healthy, I get a lot of veg on my sandwich, and I always take the sandwich without a plastic bag. So getting Subway once in a while, okay. But I lived on Subway. To the point where, I would go in, and they would know me, and know what I wanted. "Why do you always get the Veggie Delight?" they would ask. 'The Veggie Patty is really good you know.' After that time, I stopped going to Subway so much.

What else? Oh yeah. I switched back to normal deodorant after trying the Tom's of Maine kind. (It doesn't work.)

And lastly, when I was in Belgium, I bought a ton of delicious goumet chocolates. They were amazing. And also, seriously not fair-trade.

It would be a sin NOT to eat chocolate while in Belgium.

Have you tried the crystal? It works really well for me. Though I started using it since the end of last summer so I'm not sure how it will hold up during the worst of the heat but not a big worry since we've got one of the coldest/rainiest Junes on record in NYC.

I switched back to regular deoderant too. Trader Joe's brand make me break out. Trust me, under your arms is a place that you do NOT want hives!

Mindful, heh. I am not going to lie. It was damn good chocolate.

Neelofer, I haven't tried the crystal but I hear it is good. I guess I might give it a whirl.

Condo, that does not sound good. Ick.

Ok, I know the crystal is supposed to be so great but it left me with a massive rash. Imran MASSIVE. Tried Lush? I really like mine and it does work. As for Eco confessions, I have only line dried my clothes three or four times this year.

I ALWAYS let my clothes dry outside, but I live in Texas and it's the best place in the world for drying clothes and/or food in the great outdoors. If it felt like WORK, I wouldn't do it.

Deoderant? I'm working on "longest time between showers" and I only use deoderant AFTER a shower. Don't tell anyone, okay?

Definitely a sin NOT to eat chocolate while in Belgium.

Okay, now I'm scared of the crystal and TJ's deodorant. Maybe I will try Lush. I'm also considering trying coconut oil like Vanessa at Green as a Thistle uses ....

Old Novice, wow that's pretty impressive. So what's the longest you've gone? ;)

Are you saying I stink (lol, I'm wearing Tom's and it's worn off).

Baking soda works for me for deodorant. I keep saying it and no one believes me.

Ruchi, you are just such a super sinner. I've been reading all the Green Moms posts tonight for this carnival, and honestly, I'm starting to think we all just suck and ought to drown ourselves.

:-)

By the way, have you tried the veggie patty at Subway? Cuz I would but I want someone else to try it first and tell me it's okay. (Yeah, I eat at Subway too sometimes and skip the plastic bag.) On the other hand, maybe the veggie patty in England is different from the veggie patty in California. How would we know?

ruchi said...

Jenni, no, I have no experience with Tom's so I cannot say whether you stink or not. ;)

Beth, how do you apply the baking soda again? I've heard others say it was scratchy ... was it Beany? I don't remember. I haven't tried the veggie patty, but maybe I should.

I keep it in a tin in my underwear drawer and apply it with a powder puff to dry underarms. It's not scratchy to me. Here's my posts about it:

You need to go to bed!! (Also, thank you.)

Can I just say I love the Veggie Delight at Subway? And do you know that you can give them a cloth napkin and they will do your sandwich? Which doesn't suck as much.

Jenn said...

Veggie Delight: Yum! and Jennifer, I had no idea about the cloth napkin thing! That rocks. I wonder if that's at all Subways r just the eco-cool CA ones?

I like Subway as well but I eat meat sandwiches and theirs have nitrates which give me headaches so that helps.

Being allergic to mushrooms keeps me away from most other fast food haha.

I was going to say to try the crystal as well. Both my husband and I use it. I live in very humid and hot Oklahoma. We are having over 100' heat right now and while you still will sweat some you don't smell.

I had absolutely no luck with the crystal and have one completely unused if someone wants to try it. I'll send it ( after I move please!) I think for me it's the very high level of testosterone rising in my menopausal system. I'm really father earth !!
