I get really angry when I hear that what we are doing as individuals really doesn't make a difference or that if we aren't going balls to the walls green living we aren't doing enough.

It has taken us a decades to get to the state we are in right now and changing behavior is not going to happen overnight. If each of us make a commitment to become aware of our behaviors and our environmental lifestyle we can change.

It will be through individuals changing and coming together to demand social change that will effect the world more deeply.Jessicahttp://www.nearlygreen.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9203077889905915553.post-5794965380292468872009-11-16T13:39:09.383-08:002009-11-16T13:39:09.383-08:00Hey, KEEP WRITING!Hey, KEEP WRITING!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9203077889905915553.post-89698450865469903162009-11-07T19:49:09.597-08:002009-11-07T19:49:09.597-08:00In college I took several environmental courses an...In college I took several environmental courses and was fascinated by the transcendentalists, America's first environmentalists. However, I found that when it came to actually changing my lifestyle, that took time. But hearing and seeing other people do is an encouragement to myself, and I try new things all the time. I don't believe trying to get people to change through fear is going to work, nor is it healthy. Creating community, keeping positive, and spreading ideas is the way to go, and i am glad to see you do it here :-)Prestonhttp://thetendertaxonomist.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9203077889905915553.post-62315438252130035472009-11-05T22:54:26.366-08:002009-11-05T22:54:26.366-08:00What a wonderful post and I very much agree! What a wonderful post and I very much agree!Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02583524755306491510noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9203077889905915553.post-53869441217500027282009-11-03T09:41:04.002-08:002009-11-03T09:41:04.002-08:00What a great post, Ruchi!! As you point out, though, it is not just about how much plastic one person saved or what percentage we ate local. Yes, some of those things do have a market impact and for that I am grateful. Even more, though, it is the gateway to social awareness, environmental activism and ultimately change.

I get so excited when someone leaves a comment noting that they are new to personal environmentalism, that they just realized they should switch to reusable whatever. That is a movement growing there!Green Beanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03133847111288382381noreply@blogger.com
